Understanding, Mentoring, Belonging, and Racial Equity through Listening, Learning, and Advocacy
What We Do
We work with local elementary and middle schools to present several workshops to 2nd-8th grade students focused on identity and allyship, in order to encourage diversity and develop compassion and empathy within our community.
Our Core Values
We believe all people should feel welcomed and included in our school districts, and feel like they belong in our community
We believe in meeting the needs of a growing and diverse student population, and understand that by valuing and supporting our multicultural and multilingual students and their families, all students will be more successful
We believe as mentors that we can help younger students to embrace not only what makes them different, but also what they contribute to our community
Goals
Structure a formal facilitator training for committee members to further mentoring skill development
Establish relationships with school districts, principals/PTA Organizations, and DEI committees
Implement quarterly (and as needed) mentoring sessions between high school and middle school or elementary school students with high school students serving as near peer mentors
Create a social media presence to facilitate trainings, mentoring sessions, and a safe space for peer support
Educate through activities (skits, current events, sharing anonymous experiences, and group work) in order to engage students in fundamental concepts
Teach using a modified compass, to supplement high school training (simpler terms and values) that are easy for young kids to process
Expansion to outside our district, into the community as a whole
Add and improve curriculum annually
